Swimming Development Week is taking place at Levante Beach Resort on 18th September 2021. Whether you are a complete beginner or are already at an advanced level, this week will coach you to the next stage and help you to improve confidence and technique.
Our classes are run by our amazing swim coach, Norman Jones, who has over thirty years’ experience. Norman does a great job at passing on his extensive swimming skills and knowledge to the students who participate in Swim Development Week. Norman specialises in providing tailored coaching and catering to the needs of all individuals, even in a group setting. His group sessions are designed to take you to the next level and boost your confidence.
Your swim instruction will be split into different ability groups below:
Beginners: This is specifically designed for those who cannot swim, or who lack confidence in the water. The aim is to help you build confidence in the water based in a friendly, comfortable and safe environment. The focus of the week will be learning how to swim on your front and your back, tread water, whilst also learning to enjoy being in the water. By the end of the week, you should be swimming unaided and feel happy to do so.
Improvers: This group will welcome those who can swim, but would really like to have better technique and speed. Over the week, the focus will be on stroke technique, mostly freestyle, but will also include other strokes. Norman will also give guidance on how to make the most out of swimming for fitness and increased speed. You'll also learn how to successfully train using a pace clock with fun relay races. By the end of the week, you should expect to see a noticeable improvement in your swimming abilities.
Advanced: Perfect for advanced swimmers and triathletes. The sessions will be focused on stroke technique, mainly on freestyle, but will also cover butterfly, breaststroke and backstroke to help enforce good technique, as well as different breathing patterns. You can also look forward to learning backflips, along with tips on how to prepare for a training session; in order to maximize the time available in the pool. Norman will also be providing useful tips on open water swimming for both, pleasure and racing.

Here's what a few of our guests had to say about the week:
Mr Derek Parsons, September 2018
"I booked myself on the week’s Swim Development Course, which was brilliant. Being a beginner, the course was held in the indoor pool which was lovely quiet and warm. Coach Norman was amazing so enthusiastic and encouraging, Definitely a course worth having hopefully I’ll make ‘intermediate’ next year."
Mr Darren Woods, September 2018
"We had an absolutely amazing time, so thank you very indeed to all at Mark Warner, Rhodes. The major highlight for me was the 'Swim Development Week'. Norman and his wife were immense. I went into the advanced group - which I was a little nervous about (having never swum with advanced swimmers - I didn't know what to expect) - Norman and Lorraine were fantastic in this respect, immediately recognising that fact and reassuring me accordingly.
The course itself was extremely well structured with lots of technical exercises and tips and improvement advice - I'm glad the focus was not on doing endless lengths but absolute stroke refinement. I was especially impressed with Norman's technical eye - he was picking up things on an individual basis that I had never even realised. The use of underwater video when put into slow-mo helped me see exactly the points he was making. The highlight for me was the very long swim in the sea on the final day in the early morning - I really didn't think I would be able to do it (usually bomb out after 10 lengths in a 25m pool). But with great coaching getting me to focus on technique rather always compensating with power over the week and then confidence boasting up to the final swim - I achieved it and I am very chuffed to this day.
I can't impress upon you enough how much I enjoyed the week and how much I have gotten out of it. I still practice the drills every time I'm in the pool and my swimming has gone from strength to strength - I really do feel that Norman helped me unlock the key to taking my swimming to a next level and for that, I am immensely grateful. I cannot recommend this course enough - and I very much look forward to attending in the future. Norman is quite simply by far and away the best coach I have encountered (and I have had a few)."
Mr David Barrett, September 2018
"As a triathlete, I found the Swim Development Week was great for helping me make big improvements to my swimming technique. Norman, the coach was excellent. His lessons were varied and a lot of fun. I found his coaching was clear and easy to understand. The above and below water video analysis of our swimming was particularly useful in highlighting which areas to work on. I enjoyed being taught in a small and friendly group of swimmers of a similar standard. On most days the lessons were held in a very nice outdoor 25-metre training pool. Our sea swim with Norman on the final day was a great way to finish the week."
