Located in the North-Eastern part of the Aegean Sea, the island of Lemnos, like many of the Greek Islands, lends itself ideally to sailing. Mark Warner’s Lemnos Beach Resort is superbly situated right on the water’s edge, giving you direct access to some of the best sailing conditions on the island.
Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced sailor, our experienced instructors at Lemnos Beach are on hand to ensure you make the most of your time on the water. Guests at the resort can take part in free lessons throughout their stay or sign up and go through a dedicated course with a fully qualified RYA instructor.
On the approach into Kratikos Airport, you’ll notice that much of the southside of the island is comprised of sheltered bays. Lemnos Beach Resort is fortunate to be in one of the best bays in the area, with near-perfect wind conditions and warm weather throughout the summer months.
The waters around the resort are excellent for sailing, especially if you’re a novice to the sport. Winds will stay between 2-3 on the Beaufort scale in the morning, which helps make it easier for instructors to guide you through movements and sail control on the water. If you’re lying on the beach in the afternoon you’ll notice many people who want a bit of fun will try their luck against the wind as it picks up for speed and creates the opportunity to improve turns.
At Lemnos Beach, there are several sailing courses free to all hotel guests. Whether you are looking for a half-day session or an action-packed weeklong course, we offer all our guests the opportunity to explore the beautiful coastal scenery around the resort.
For anyone who has never even been near a sailboat, we recommend booking in for the free Introduction to Sailing course. It is a free 3-hour lesson that will quickly see you pick up tips and even go for a skim on the water. We find it’s a great way of seeing whether you want to continue sailing as the week goes on.
Lemnos Beach is an RYA accredited centre, meaning that all courses are recognised internationally as a National Sailing Scheme. As this is one of the most popular activities at Lemnos Beach, we recommend booking your sailing course in the UK before your departure to ensure you get a spot in your preferred class.
For beginners, we have a superb selection of courses for first-time sailors, including our Introduction to Sailing course, Refresher Sailing and Improver clinic. Our world-class sailing instructors will take you through the basics on land before heading onto the water. Whether you want to try out sailing for fun or are looking for an RYA qualification, at Lemnos Beach we have a superb selection of boats and dinghies to suit everyone.
The RYA Youth Sailing Scheme is available at the resort and will see children learn how to sail in the Mediterranean. There are four stages for young sailors and instructors will be able to gauge what level a child is at as the 10-hour course pans out.
The courses are £50 when pre-booked in the UK.
Feel like you’ve gained skills from a previous beginner’s course and want to see if you really can take the reins and race a sailboat? There are advanced modules that could see you learning how to sail like a professional in Greece.
Modules include course racing in a spinnaker and learning how to sail in a crew boat.
Want to try sailing at your own pace? Instructors can be booked in for private lessons at the resort.
You have the option of one on one tuition for an hour at a time, or you can take part in a private parent and child lesson. This particular lesson is excellent at building confidence for children with a special gentle sail along with your instructor.
Private lessons need to be booked in person at the resort.
