The beautiful ski resort of Tignes is made up of three small villages, offering a very reliable snow record and some of the best ski slopes in Europe. Shopping in Tignes
In the town centre, there are endless things to do to keep yourself occupied throughout your stay. If you are looking to do a spot of shopping, take a wander through the wide range of fashion boutiques, sports shops and gift shops surrounding the resort. You will be able to find some lovely gifts and thoughtful souvenirs for your friends and family back home.
Stroll through the local market stalls and discover local produce from the Alps. Exploring Tignes market is the perfect way to mingle with the locals and experience authentic French culture.
The Tignes resort is located beneath the stunning twin peaks of La Grande Motte and La Grande Casse. Over the years, Tignes has become particularly popular for the presence of the Grande Motte glacier as it provides guests with the opportunity to ski throughout ten months of the year, including during the summer season. The fabulous glacier offers around 20 kilometres of pristine white slopes for alpine skiing, cross-country skiing or snowboarding experiences.
Take the train up to the panoramic mountain restaurant located at the top of Grande Motte and enjoy a delicious meal overlooking the snowy peaks. Once you have refuelled at the restaurant, take the cable car up to the top of the glacier to experience truly breath-taking views of the town of Tignes below.
Summer skiing is also available in Val d'Isère upon the Pisaillas Glacier right through until mid-July. For any non-skiers, you can create fantastic memories with friends by experiencing a glacial hike up the mountains.
Whether you are travelling with children or a group of friends, it is important to take note of the nearest hospitals and medical centres in case of any emergencies throughout your trip. The nearest hospital to Tignes is the Hospital Bourg Saint Maurice, located forty minutes outside of the resort.
There are two medical centres located in Tignes, one in Le Lac and another in Val Claret. The medical centres are open all year round offering walk-in services and appointments for all. Doctors and physiotherapists are on hand to deal with minor injuries and illnesses.
To avoid any expensive medical bills in the case of an emergency, it is strongly recommended that you organise your own travel insurance cover for the duration of your stay in Tignes. For those travelling from the EU, make sure to have your European Health Insurance Card with you to reduce the initial costs of any medical treatments you may need.
