Stand up paddle boarding (SUP) is a fast-growing global sport with a Hawaiian heritage. In the early 1960s, the beach boys of Waikiki would stand on their long boards and paddle out with outrigger paddles to take pictures of the tourists learning to surf.
One of the reasons for the rise in popularity of SUP boarding is that, unlike surfing, it is very easy to learn. Within one hour, you can become very comfortable in the water and on your board. And at many of our resorts, you can give it a go yourself.
SUP Boarding is a great way for new and experienced watersport enthusiasts to get out on the water with little to no experience. The skills needed to stand up paddle board can be learnt by anyone in a short space of time. The sturdy and spacious board makes it a fun, easy way to play on the water and to enjoy the views.
Paddleboarding offers an amazing full body workout that helps to improve balance and allows you to gain core strength. Besides standing, you can sit, kneel or lay on a paddleboard ensuring that the whole family can give it a try. With celebrities sampling the sport and top athletes using paddleboarding as a way to keep toned - isn’t it time you gave it a try?
Starboard stand up paddle boards for adults and children age 14 years and above are available for use free of charge.
