Positioned on Turkey’s Aegean coast, Foça is a town in Izmir best known for its crystal clear waters, rich history and delicious seafood. Our Phokaia Beach Resort is situated on the outskirts of this beautiful harbour town.
Foça boasts a beautiful climate, being the area of Izmir that receives the least amount of rainfall each year. The Mediterranean climate is dominant, with the summer months being dry and hot with an average of 26°C, usually accompanied by a gentle breeze. Even well into September and October, the average daily temperature is around 24-25°C, meaning guests to our Phokaia resort can make the most of the Autumn sun.
Thanks to a combination of mild climate, soil structure and migration and trade routes passing through Izmir, Foça has a rich cuisine to offer visitors. Olive oil is prized as the source of health, beauty and a nutritious diet in Turkey, as well as wild herbs and greens. The reflection of the presence of ethnic communities in Izmir is reflected in the beautiful seafood on offer, with mezes made out of prawns, scallops, crab and squid, accompanied with the most important condiments; garlic and olive oil! A charming feature of Izmir is the tradition of a flower for every season; artichoke for spring, zucchini blossoms for summer and figs for autumn, which are incorporated into seasonal dishes.
Things to do in Foça and the Izmir region
The hilly nature of the Foça terrain means it is a great travel destination for those who enjoy road cycling and mountain biking, and the picturesque bay is ideal for sailing, windsurfing, stand up paddle boarding, waterskiing and wakeboarding and kayaking! We also work with a local diving school, who offer a wide range of scuba diving courses. There are six small islands facing Foca and among these are Orak and Incir, known as the Sirens’ Rocks mentioned in Homer’s Odyssey. With the town exuding so much character, our Phokaia resort stays in-keeping with the charm of the region, incorporating traditional elements with a luxury feel.
Ephesus
The Greek ancient city of Ephesus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is located just an hour and 45 minutes’ drive from the resort. Once one of the best preserved ancient cities in the world, you’ll discover town squares, baths and monuments and temples.
