The town of Foça has an interesting past with Persian, Greek, Roman and Turkish empires all controlling the town at different stages of its history. This town’s unique past is reflected in the old town and its architecture with buildings and ruins originating from different stages of the town’s rich history. Throughout the Middle Ages, Foça was a strategically positioned port town for traders of alum. There are still remnants of buildings and streets from this time in Old Foça and close to the water’s edge.
