Looking to try something new while in Méribel? Why not try your hand at ice climbing. This exhilarating sport is popular during the winter months with both advanced and beginner climbers. Ice climbing is regularly practiced in the Trois Vallées as the landscape lends itself perfectly to this sport during the winter months with an abundance of frozen waterfalls and ice walls to climb.
There are a number of ice climbing tours operating out of Méribel and the neighbouring town of Courchevel for both beginners and advanced climbers. Before your climb an experienced instructor will give you a thorough safety briefing and show you how to use the equipment provided. To ensure you stay warm during your climb it is advised you wear ski gear and take a spare pair of gloves.
With a number of locations ideal for ice climbing you have a choice of locations including summits, folds of ice and ice walls. For novices there is an artificial ice wall located at Champagny le Haut where you can get to grips with the equipment and get a taste of what it’s like to ascend a frozen wall of ice.
Meribel has a number of exciting activities available in and around the town. For thrill seekers, the town is home to a number of companies offering a range of exciting tours for adventure enthusiasts. Take to the sky on a paragliding tour, where you have the opportunity to glide over the snowy mountain peaks with an experienced pilot.
For families there is plenty for both children and adults to enjoy in Méribel. The Parc Olympique leisure centre is a superb facility with activities for all ages. Children can enjoy splashing around in the pool and sliding down the flumes while adults can relax and unwind after a long day on the slopes with a treatment at the spa centre.
The centre is also home to a large ice rink where you can practice your ice skating skills. Built for the ice hockey matches in the 1992 Winter Olympics, the local team still plays here once a week throughout the season. A fun evening activity, make sure you catch a game while you are in Méribel.
