RYA Adult Courses - As an RYA accredited centre, we are able to teach the National Sailing Scheme. This offers our guests the chance to earn a recognised, certified qualification, ideal for those interested in owning a dinghy or joining a sailing club. The minimum age for the below courses is 14 years. For younger sailors we are delighted to offer the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme.
RYA Start Sailing (Level 1)
The beginner's course. Tuition throughout the course of the week teaching the basics of sailing. By the end of the course , participants wil have a basic understanding of sailing up, down and across the wind, turning the boat and how to recover from a capsize. RYA Start Sailing certificate and log book (subject to successful assessment) are awarded. This course is always very popular and we reccomend pre-booking in the UK.
RYA Basic Skills (Level 2)
Tuition throughout the course of the week taking you to the next level. This course consolidates the skills learnt on the Start Sailing course and sets out the foundations of sailing. By the end of it you'll be a competent light wind sailor. RYA Basic Skills certificate (subject to successful assessment) is awarded. Again, a very popular course, it is reccomended to pre-book in the UK.
RYA Better Sailing (Level 3)
A recent addition to the National Sailing Scheme, this excellent course bridges the gap between Start Sailing, Basic Skills and the Further Modules making the transition easier for those wishing to progress through the scheme. Through a large amount of time spent at the helm, confidence is built and technique is developed. RYA Better Sailing certificate (subject to succesful assessement) is awarded. Pre-bookable in the UK.
RYA Seamanship skills
The succesful sailor will be capable of manoeuvring a dinghy in a seamanlike manner and capable of making seamanship decisions in moderate conditions. The emphasis of the course is placed on increasing self-reliance and decision making. Tuition takes place throughout the course of the week. Pre-bookable in the UK
RYA Sailing with Spinnakers
An exhilharating course that teaches you how to rig, hoist, drop and trim a spinnaker effectively. Large amounts of time are spent on the water, learning how to maximise boat speed and understand best course downwind. A useful course to do if you are interested in racing crewed boats. Tuition takes place throughout the course of the week. Pre bookable in the UK
RYA Start Racing
Tuition teaching you all the skills required to enjoy club racing, maximising boat speed and out-witting your opponents. This course is perfect for those who would like to join their local sailing club. Tuition takes place throughout the course of the week. Not pre bookable in the UK
Further coaching to improve your sailing primarily in two person boats with spinnakers. Not pre-bookable in the UK.
RYA Kids’ Courses - For children under 14 years we offer the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme. The YSS offers both a fun and educational experience. Structured and progressive learning, under the watchful eye of our experienced, qualified instructors will allow children to come away with an RYA qualification that can be used to contribute to other areas of study such as PE and the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. The scheme links in with the adult programme allowing for a smooth transition as children's skills develop. All are pre-bookable in the UK.
Stage 1 (Age 6-13 years)
10 hours of tuition spread over the week, introducing younger sailors to the basics of launching and recovering, steering, parts of the boat and basic sailing. A certificate is awarded at the end of the course.
Stage 2 (Age 6-13 years)
10 hours of instruction increasing the ability of the young sailor's basic sailing skills, rope work, collision avoidance. At the end of the course they will be able to tack and control boat speed and leave and return to shore under supervision.
Stage 3 (Age 8 - 13 years)
10 hours of tuition over the week focusing on rigging, launching and recovery, sailing techniques, capsize recovery and sailing theory. By the end of the course the young sailor will be able to launch and sail a dinghy around a triangle with confidence in moderate conditions.
Stage 4 (Age 8 - 13 years)
10 hours of tution, teaching sailing techniques including launch, mooring and recovery manoeuvres in crewed boats and recovering man overboard.
