Christmas Ski Holidays in France
Why should you pick France for skiing this Christmas? It’s quite simple really. From November to April our resorts in the area are snow sure. That means you’re guaranteed to wake up every day and open the windows to find a pristine slope covered in snow. With countless flights over this period it’s easier than ever to jet off to our ski resorts in France for a Christmas break. You can reach the French resorts with direct flights from London Gatwick, London Heathrow, Birmingham Airport and Manchester International Airport. (You can see exactly when our flights from these airports by clicking here)
Each resort offers fluent English speaking tuition, so if you’ve never skied before don’t worry as you’ll be confident to go it alone in no time at all. Our French resorts are great spots for taking kids if they’re new to skiing too, with French family ski holidays one of our most popular destinations in the winter. The French resorts have excellent childcare facilities and clubs for kids aged 4 months all the way up to 12 years old, with some offering an evening listening service that lets parents get some much needed chill out time.
With four top of the range resorts in France, let’s find out a little more about The Three Valleys, Paradiski, Espace Killy and Les Deux Alpes.
The Three Valleys
Trois Valleés (the Three Valleys) is situated in the Savoy region. Even though the name says three, it actually extends across four valleys with hundreds of kilometres that can only be summed up as ski heaven. Mark Warner guests staying in the area are lucky in that they only need one ski pass to use any slope they want.
One of our resorts in the Three Valleys is the lovely and charming Méribel. Known for having more of a boutique vibe, the hills stretch farther here; so you can expect to find a great mixture of novice and expert skiers walking around. We have two amazing spots in the area: the Chalet Hotel Tarentaise with its super cosy fireside lounge and the Chalet Loden that looks exactly like what you’d imagine a picturesque chalet by the slopes to look like.
Just an hour north of the Three Valleys is Paradiski; home to the family friendly resort of La Plagne. It may be famous for the world’s biggest cable car but this quaint resort offers the perfect place for anyone new to skiing a few slopes that will ease you in well. The hotel is right by the ski school meetup point at the bottom of the slopes making it a very easy resort for families to navigate.
Another great ski area of the Savoie is Espace Killy. It is home to two great ski areas; the lively and long established Val d’Isere, and Tignes; renowned for the legendary Grande Motte glacier that hosts a number of perfect runs. Val d'Isere is loved by Mark Warner families as our resorts are tucked away right in the middle of the village that will make you think you’ve living in the heart of a Christmas market. With some notable restaurants and cafes too, this is quite the après ski spot.
Resorts in Tignes are fabulous, with one in particular (Chalet Hotel Aiguille Percée) having just undergone a fantastic renovation with improved childcare facilities.
Les Deux Alpes
One of France’s historic resorts situated in the Isère, Les Deux Alpes is a skier’s paradise. We find this area to be great for couples who want a romantic retreat in the snow, and when we’re talking about a Christmas Ski Holiday, there’s no better resort than Chalet hotel Berangere. Couples checking in can be welcomed with a lovely little selection of canapés and a well-deserved glass of something bubbly; you’re on holiday after all.
Christmas Ski Holidays in Italy
A Christmas ski holiday in Italy is a very classy affair in deed. Up in our resort at Courmayeur, the pace of life is quite laid back and around Christmas everyone likes to take it a little easier on the slopes (probably a good thing if you’re new to the sport). With a direct flight to the area from London Gatwick that takes just under two hours, it’s never been quicker to get to your White Christmas getaway.
After a short transfer from the airport, you’ll arrive in to Courmayeur and instantly tell yourself you’ll never want to leave. Looking up at Mont Blanc, the Chalet Hotel Cristallo sits among the little cosy chalets and buildings of the village. It’s the ideal spot for that picture perfect holiday photo that will make everyone back home jealous. And with free Wi-Fi at the chalet you don’t have to worry about roaming charges either.
This area is more preferential for anyone on a couple’s ski holiday although during the school holidays the resort is extremely accommodating to families. It doesn’t provide childcare though so we do suggest any families with younger children looking for these amenities to read more about the dedicated family ski holidays Mark Warner provides.

Beautiful and serene, St Anton has a lot more to offer than your average resort. Located only 2 hours from three international airports, it’s easy enough to reach and once you’ve arrived, the area is small enough to walk around and explore by foot. Chalet Hotel Rosanna is our main resort in the area.
Also known for its nightlife, St Anton offers families many fun amenities away from the slopes including ice-skating, sleigh-rides, swimming and tobogganing. Also, the sport and climbing centre is a place to come and enjoy for a day away from the mountains. Located five minutes from the town, guests can partake in a number of sports such as tennis, volleyball, squash and its stand out amenity, the vast climbing area in the centre. The younger tourists will enjoy St Anton by day and night with an abundance of entertainment options too.
Zell Am See
Zell Am See is a skier’s paradise. Beauty, ski runs and nightlife are all packed into this beautiful lakeside resort. The popular Schmittenhöhe ski run gives skiing enthusiasts of all levels the chance to improve their skiing or snowboarding technique while you can relax with your family at the fun park after a morning on the slopes. If skiing isn’t on the activity menu one day, experience a walk across the frozen lake and take in the scenery that the destination has in abundance.
At night, Zell Am See offers quirky and lively bars to enjoy. The Pinzgauer Diele rock bar is great if you’re looking for something a bit loud while the Ginhouse bar offers a place to unwind and have a quiet drink.
