Why will our guests love tennis at Phokaia Beach resort?
As the Sports Manager for Phokaia, my aim is to create an atmosphere similar to a sports club in the UK and succeed in bringing people together. We keep it fun! When a sport is fun, it is easier to learn which keeps everyone motivated. We want to create life-long lovers of the game.
Tell us about beach tennis
Beach Tennis is one of the world’s fastest growing sports and is particularly played in South America and Spain. It’s played on a beach volleyball court with up to 12 players on at the same time. We run it after social tennis every Thursday and at the end of each session, Coach Leah and I challenge 6 guests to ‘take-us-on’ to 15 points. We are unbeaten after 6 weeks…
To say it’s been a smashing success would be an understatement.
What lessons are available at Phokaia and what would you recommend doing to get involved?
Tennis is a sport that can be played by people of all ages, children from 3 up to 15 years-old can attend lessons in resort and I’ve coached people who are still capable of hitting the ball in their late 80’s.
We run adult LTA ‘Xpress’ courses which are designed for beginners. These leave our guests feeling confident with the basics and our Classic Courses for intermediate and advanced players take their skills to the next level.
We also receive a very high demand of interest for our cardio-driven drill sessions. We may point out a few coaching tips but these sessions are designed to give our guests the chance to hit hundreds of balls in an intense 45 minutes on the court.
What is social tennis?
As well as our professional coaching programme and classes, we also have fun tennis activities for our guests to get involved in. They’re designed for those who want to play in a relaxed and social environment. It means everyone can practice with other guests at the same level and enjoy the company of old and new friends.
What are the equipment and facilities like?
Here in Turkey, we have 4 floodlit tennis courts, set in pairs in the resort. Like all of our beach resorts, we supply HEAD tennis rackets (both adult and children’s sizes) for Mark Warner guests to use free of charge so our guests can take to the court at any time during their holiday, not just during lessons or social sessions.
