Mark Warner doesn't disappoint. Informal and friendly ambience and an option to dine with others on a 'social' table makes for an enjoyable end to the day.

My wife and I enjoyed our holiday in Corsica. The weather was good, albeit it turned a little cooler and storms one evening meant dinners were taken inside for the last few days. The beach setting is good, with a pleasant sandy beech and grassed area behind. The hotel was adequate, but the rooms were dated and tired and in need of updating. The extract vents to the bathroom and loo did not work, so it was a little unpleasant. The food was adequate, but very much inferior to other MW resorts and other hotels. Supplies started to run out toward the end as it was the last week of the season.Staff were young, but tried their best. Bikes were fine, boats were OK, but larger dinghies were in short supply.

The hotel is in need of investment. We were last there 15 years ago- I do not think the carpet in our bedroom has been changed since then. I doubt it has been redecorated since then.

Beautiful location. Such a pity there has not been more investment in the hotel. Rooms were clean, beds comfortable but no fridge, hairdryer or anything on which to dry clothes. Sailors have a lot of wet clothes.
Weather was cold and stormy. We were eating inside. The A la carte menus were very good but restaurant with its low ceiling made it very noisy and had an atmosphere of a school canteen.

This was a fantastic break. I read some of the other reviews and wonder if they have been to the same place! Throughout the week the staff were great. You could have a conversation with any of them, they were all very polite and knowledgeable in their areas.

The sailing was really good and it was nice to have a few different boats to try and even a couple of cats to have some fun with. The afternoon races were fun even though i was pretty bad at them i still enjoyed them and was made to feel part of the race by the staff with great encouragement. Had a really useful improvers clinic by one of their instructors one afternoon.

I loved the food, the restaurant staff were courteous and helpful and there was plenty of food and plenty of choice.

Fitness programs were run well and i managed to get up early for a couple of the early morning (sunrise) swims.

Overall, I came back rested, relaxed and had a lot of fun.

Thank you Mark Warner

Poor facilities; poor management and staff; we have been several times to this resort and have always been really happy but not this year!
Broken tiles and parasols...staff using sunbeds and chef sneaking pizza on more than one occasion
Saw a mouse run into the kitchen...evening food very poor...dark meals - no candles or trimmings...mostly ate inside which was like a canteen...
dirty cups, no spoons, no straws for a cocktail and rip off bar prices
Won't be going again - not worth it for the price - very upset

Service rating : Unlike previous Mark Warner sun holidays I have been on (Turkey & Rhodes) the San Luciana, Bastia resort did not live up to the standards I expected from MW. The hotel was very shabby, dirty and definitely in need of a complete makeover. Indeed the dining area & terrace had several broken floor tiles and steps which in mind not only looked terrible but posed a potential health and safety risk. It was exceptionally tired and grubby and the tea/coffee area was very unappealing and cheap looking. There was no real quality control of the whole dining experience (regardless of time of day) from the presentation of food (checking that the food was edible - i.e. cooked), to ensuring the food remained in a good condition and replenished as required. Equally there was no control over the supply of cutlery, plates, mugs and milk - as staff often responded to requests by guests rather than it being noticed as part of the control process. It was evident that there was a real lack of leadership and management of the dining area in particular.

That said, the MW staff worked exceptionally hard to provide a good service and were all very friendly and helpful. I just feel they were let down, as all the guests were, by a very poorly presented and managed resort.
Product : The resort was the worst place I have been ever. My first impression of the dining area and outside terrace nearly reduced me to tears.

Having been on 3 previous mark warner holidays over 10 years ago and enjoyed and recommended them. I cant believe that Corsica was the same place that I had previously visited.
Holidaying with 2 adult children and 3 grandchildren 6, 10 and 11, I thought it would be the ideal holiday.
Dirty room which smelled like a boys locker room which was shampooed and cleaned after complaining. No working lock on daughters room
The service of the restaurant was dreadful, untrained staff who couldn't care less. Wine left in shallow trays of melted ice leaving warm white wine, same with water. (What happened to the ice coolers you had in the past) Melon seemed to be the dessert for lunch and evening meal, you had to be quick for the limited other desserts. A la carte menu was worse than self service. Pizza was good but very popular and chef found it hard to keep up with demand.
No beer glasses. When my husband said there is a beer glass on the shelf behind the barmaid he was told that it was being saved for someone else. Wayne the manager couldn't cope with the huge number of complaints. We were told no more maintenance would be carried out as the lease was at its end. Why is it being advertised for 2018. Rocky tables and broken chairs in restaurant. Broken Sofa without cushions in what used to be a beautiful beach bar. 11 euros for a gin and 3 euros for a tonic was a bit steep.
No beach towels for 24 hours as they were in the laundry and a price of 10 euros to hire a worn out beach towel is unheard of.
No sailing boats available, when asked if you had a waiting list or procedure told to" just keep trying." Tennis racquets with worn out grips, broken table tennis bats. Broken ladder in pool next to childrens pool.
I am not seeking compensation but would like your remarks. I wouldn't want a free holiday either.
Would I recommend you - Never.

Service rating : Service on the sports and activities front was reasonable - exception was the fitness instructor who was first class. Service within the hotel was generally of a low standard representing occasionally enthusiastic amateurs failing to produce a professional service. Bar in the hotel was hardly manned, meal service was slow with excuses given as a "lack of staff in the kitchen"
Product : Very poor value for money. Bar prices very expensive and more reminiscent of central London (5 euros for a mediocre lager) than Corsica. So called "All inclusive package" a rip off as is very much only on a few selected items and definitively not all-inclusive. Also to charge any child over 12 £120 per week for an all inclusive package seems totally over the top.

Overall holiday cost poor value given the tired dirty and substandard state of bedrooms (mountain facing) the reception area and the dining area

We as a family of 11, from 7years to 73 enjoyed the activities especially the sailing. Kids club great and Jen on the keep fit!

Could definitely recommend this holiday. Staff were enthousiastic, helpful and cheerful.

Would have liked a ladies bike to avoid crossbar for me and husband who has two replacement hips.

A welcome addition would be a singlehanded sailing dinghy or two suitable for folk of 13stone upwards and 6ft plus. Only the 'cat' was OK for them.

Service rating : Fantastic holiday - loved the sailing, kids club and activities. The 'model' works brilliantly and all the staff on waterfront, Jen doing aerobics etc and kids club in particular were all doing a great job. The Manager was also very helpful and responsive. I would happily go back for a third visit.

However, though helpful, many of the other staff were stunningly incompetent and obviously untrained. The kitchen and service staff were obviously overwhelmed and some of the food was as dangerous as it was unpleasant. On one occasion, Chicken was served so bloodily uncooked that staff went around the whole restaurant telling guests not to eat what was on their plates. Another night, Mussels were served so cold that there were ice crystals in the sauce!

Dinner service was a joke - staff were courteous and were clearly *trying*, but simply didn't know what they were doing. My impression was that there was a a competent cook back there, surrounded by British staff with no real catering experience, serving frozen food flown in from the UK.

Since our last visit there has been little or no maintenance and the place is falling apart. There is obvious cost cutting - most shockingly there is no longer a lifeguard on the kids pool (nor even any clear instructions on what is permitted behavior). Quite simply it is an accident waiting to happen - and there was one fairly serious incident whilst we were there.

So we had an absolutely wonderful time - so good I would not even claim the holiday was marred by the serious and sometimes dangerous faults in the way the resort is run. However, if Mark Warner wants to stay in business and keep guests alive they need to improve standards.

Service rating : Have given a generous 3*. Hotel is dated and grounds are grubby. No effort to clear away old inflatables from poolside / bar left covered in glasses every night / public bins left full / no attempt to pick up rubbish / mend broken tiles. Wasps are a significant problem at mealtimes and a simple solution would be a couple of dozen wasp catchers, but no sign of any. Food was hit and miss - ok some days, dreadful others. Childcare was not usual MW standard - vague, did not stick to timetable and on occasion children were found in the complex unsupervised which frankly is unacceptable. All that said and done, we enjoyed the ambiance & had a nice break but feel that £4,000 for an average week was not good value for money.
Product : As above!!! We are not the complaining type. It feel a tiny bit hard done by given what we received vs what we payed.

Service rating : We have been on six Mark Warner holidays since our sons were toddlers! They are now both Indy Club members and we've just our second holiday at the San Lucianu resort. The atmosphere is very relaxed and chilled. We all had a really good holiday - thanks to Mark Warner's great team, again!

This company offers the perfect holiday recipe for families, single parents with kids (any age), and even grandparents to join in. You can be as active or as sedentary as you wish - no pressure either way.

We lazed around reading books, I had a full body massage, we swam in the sea at sun-rise, joined in some of the exercise classes, my husband ran for one of the triathlon teams, we cycled up a nearby mountain, our sons enjoyed spending time with a terrific group of peers, and one son took his Stage 2 sailing certificate. We cycled to the nearby town for a coffee and for lunch, had dinner in the nearby Port, etc. etc. Basically - we all had a ball!!

Service rating : Any worries about going to St Luciana evaporated the moment we arrived.
The hotel is in a beautiful spot on the beach and mountains behind.
We went for the cycling and water sports and both were excellent. Also loved our early morning swims in the calm clear sea.
We had the older rooms, which were comfortable and clean and benefitted from facing west for the evening sunset behind the mountains. My husband loved the huge wardrobes !

The food was lovely and the booking system seemed to work well. Particularly enjoyed the variety of Bbqs, al la carts and buffet dinners. We had planned to go out a few times, but enjoyed the hotel food too much to want to miss it.

Staff all hard working, enthusiastic and helpful.
Only small criticism is that they could have done with more Lasers, which were always in demand for training and racing.
Would have no hesitation in returning.

Service rating : Overall we had a great holiday made so by the other families, great activities, and a great location. It could have been better though. Food on the whole was fine. Some days better than others. Plenty of it but there were reports of food poisoning while we were there. The hotel itself was very tired especially the Mountain facing rooms of which there are no detailed photos when booking!! We had a bedside lampshade missing with just the bare bulb. This was mentioned 3 times throughout the week from the day we arrived and never fixe! The beach equipment had seen better days and many of the boats were also tired after a hard season or 3 and several were out of action. Many of the staff followed a similar pattern of being very tired after a hard season too and it showed!! Much of the childcare was great especially the younger kids clubs 3-5s and 8-9s. Some of the older childcare were more than happy for kids to sign themselves out especially if an activity had been cancelled due to heavy winds etc. Not huge amounts of enthusiasm reported from our older kids in their hosts. The beach crew were great though and could not have been more helpful. One thing that did surprise me especially 10 years on from Praia da Luz was that there was NO CCTV at all and this seemed to be something that wasn't allowed to be discussed by staff!?

We all did enjoy the holiday though and would go back but with a little bit more TLC from Mark Warner the holiday would have been even better.

My kids had a great time but I wouldn't come back to this resort. It was fine - can't go wrong with sun, sea, beach toys and swimming pools - but the place is tired and not what I expected of the MW brand. The food is not great (good for kids but the adults are just putting up with it) and the coffee was terrible. The grounds could be improved and the beach combed. I think the place just needs investing in. Sorry MW.

Service rating : I think the main pool area is in need of an overhaul to make it more attractive. It looks pretty bleak and unappealing. There was an almost constant lack of cutlery especially teaspoons in the buffet area and sometimes plates and egg cups too. Quite a lot of the bowls at breakfast were cracked. Yuk! Staff didn't clear away tables fast enough. Dirty tables is an unappealing sight. Some of the loungers in the garden are simply broken and therefore can't be put up or down as required. They need replacing. I saw a member of staff in the pizza kitchen area eating pizza with his fingers while on duty serving pizza to guests. This is grossly unhygienic.
Product : I love the location and the lawn running down to the beach and the availability of cycling (love the new road bikes) and sailing. Some things need to be smartened up, eg. crockery and cutlery, sun loungers and the main pool area plus carpeting on the stairs looks ancient.

Product : This was an excellent holiday in a great resort. The fact there is only one flight a week makes for a very relaxed feel to the place. Comments about the rather tired building and the slightly variable restaurant service are justified but looking beyond that ( and what is the odd cold shower between friends) this is just a really great place to have a holiday. The young people staffing the departments, and they have got younger it's not just me, really do try hard to please. I also felt that the management were turning things around slowly and they have limited scope to fix fundamentals like the building, such as the arrival of a second coffee machine (but pack your own Cafetierre). You would have to drink pretty solidly to get your money's worth out of the 'all inclusive' package though I can see why people with children see it as an easier option, and there is a rumour those guests got better 'free' wine. Just a shame the accountants have such a strangle hold on the budget for boats and windsurf kit, which are well overdue for an upgrade; I got that sinking feeling on occasion. I disagree that Jen from activities should be the hotel manager...she quite clearly should be the Mark Warner CEO! Top tip: If hiring a car, book one in advance from the airport.

Food was inedible. I was actually sick several nights. There are broken tiles all in the "dining" area. It advertises two restaurants on the website but only one set up buffet area with limited options is actually there. We witnessed someone falling due to broken tiles and went through an open glass door with glass breaking everywhere from what she was holding. We witnessed a young boy getting stuck in a toilet as the locks were so bad and the staff had to hand him pliers under the door to get out. Some very lovely staff but it is like a resort for staff where they are drinking and cuddling up to each other and it feels like you are paying the high price for the staff to have a summer abroad. My son's childcare person kept asking all parents to check out their kids from the activities and she could be seen kissing her "boyfriend" on the couches or sunbathing during the activities. Some kids childcare staff absolutely brilliant. But really not at all worth the cost. Night and day from Rhodes. Mark warner Rhodes is brilliant. Go there. Beautiful island. It wouldn't cost much for Corsica to fix up their resort and put some rules in for staff. If they did it then it would be lovely, but until then best to avoid.

Service rating : Dear Mark Warner

I feel I have been robbed by you... I'll explain. Since my childhood I've always thought of a Mark Warner holidays as exclusive and high quality. But it's really not a quality resort it's a dump stuck in 1995.

With staff members having a holiday at paying guests expense. Staff lay around the pool, bar and beach area like it's a sixth form holiday. Lots of staff around but not helpful or knowledgeable. It's like a youth hostel.

We stayed at San Lucianu from the 8th July to 15th July. I'm gutted by the experience.

Wayne said approach him or his staff, I quickly learned that this was pointless. The staff are clueless, staff members are more likely to say "it's not my job" or "I don't know" than actually find out the required information. Staff members bring wine to the table when not wanted only to then say "that's okay I'll drink it".

The room (329) is very very basic... no fridge, no tea or coffee, no cold drinking water, little choice of TV channels and cold bath/shower water from 5pm to 7pm it's a hotel (so wouldn't really expect this?)

The restaurant is dirty, bird poo, wires on the floor and broken tiles. No bread/butter knifes. No soup spoons. No side plates. No access to fruit. No snacks (apart from mars bars or M&Ms) between meal times. No coffee machine. No ice water available unless the bar is open or you're willing to walk to the beach bar.

Receptionist no words to describe... essentially useless. With no information on the local area.

The food is really poor, apart from the pizza guy. The food is just bad, cold and a very limited choice.

The people who return here year after year have their reasons. I won't ever be holidaying with Mark Warner again.

Suggestions:

Local staff
Managed staff.
A shop selling basic holiday things like hats etc
A vehicle offering local rides.
Nutra-bullet but no fruit for smoothies?? Get some fruit...
Brochure in the room with all information available.
Knowledge staff...
No security staff which is crazy in this day and age??
Improved hot water heating.

The worse part is I paid extra to bring my carbon road bike because I thought the hire cost for a carbon bike was to high. Only to find out some guests were given cut down rates to hire the carbon bike. This is wrong.. it's a rip off to me.

Service rating : Overall a fantastic holiday if you love water sports and all the other activities on offer. These more than compensate for the slightly shabby hotel rooms and lacklustre restaurant service (food reasonably good, location great but waiting staff terrible - they seem to be gap year students still expecting mum & dad to do the tidying up!).
Product : Great holiday for an active family - docked a star due to terrible restaurant service which resulted in me clearing the table several times.

Service rating : The facilities, staff and especially the childcare are brilliant. This made for a great holiday as the children had so much fun with the nannies which meant my husband and I could enjoy the sports facilities as well relax during evening meals together without worry.
Product : MW really seem to understand the needs of both parents and their children with the holidays they provide. This was our first holiday with childcare for our 2 and 3 year old's and it worked better than we could have anticipated.

Customer Comments:

Service rating : We stayed at San Lu ten years ago and it was good then. Little has changed and we had a very enjoyable holiday there this year. The only negative comments are actually exactly as they were ten years ago, namely the coffee and the paucity of catamarans.
As a hotel of this standard there really should be more than one coffee machine for 170 guests! And furthermore one that works: most of the time it failed to function. A simple problem which would take little time and money to resolve.
There was often a queue for the catamarans and although there were I am told originally three one was out of commission. You should repair it asap.
Otherwise all very good, particularly the food and the staff.
Product : I have nothing to add to the comments above.

Service rating : The variety of food (there was almost none) and air conditioning need improving.
The resort appeared short of staff and yet, in their time off they were very present around the pool which was a bit off putting.
Product : There needs to be variety in the food, its the same every day. The air conditioning needs improving.
The resort appears short of staff and yet they spend their time off by the pool etc which is a little off putting

Customer Comments:

Service rating : Although there was a lot we liked there were lots of areas where things could have been a great deal better for no extra cost. In particular the lack of provision of accurate information and the provision of wrong information meant we lost several opportunities for various activities. I the dining room the floor, tables and highchairs were not cleaned adequately or regularly, the tables were not laid we had to spend time at the start of most meals finding cutlery, chairs, highchairs, cleaning equipment. ashtrays were not emptied although the majority of guests did not smoke there were always old cigarettes on the tables. The room cleaning, sailing and child care were good except for the misinformation.
Product : I have just typed out what I thought on the previous page.
The UK staff were kind and friendly but somewhat ineffective providing wrong information, changing rules as they went along, not doing things until prompted and seemingly unaware of the difficulties of managing young children and babies. There was some yoghourt and a squashed tomato on the floor of the dining area for over 24 hours and we had reported these problems and partially cleared them up ourselves. Ash trays were not emptied regularly and fag ends were on every table even though we rarely saw guests smoking.
