Skiing themed books for kids
Books can be a fantastic way of getting kids interested in upcoming holidays and new destinations, and that includes ski trips. All of the following will also make wonderful Christmas presents for ski-mad kids or for children just getting into the idea of skiing. Alternatively, save them for the journey to keep the kids entertained en route to your ski resort.

Squirrels on Skis, J Hamilton Ray (Random House, £6.99)
This tale of a bunch of squirrels who go ski crazy, complete with brilliant illustrations, doubles up handily as a beginner-reader book (it’s one of the I Can Read it All by Myself series).
Peppa Pig: Peppa Pig Goes Skiing (Ladybird, £4.99)
In this adventure, the cartoon pig much loved by pre-schoolers learns to ski with Madame Gazelle, who finds herself caught up in a rivalry with Mummy Pig. Also look out for ‘Peppa’s Snowy Fun’.
Ollie’s Ski Trip, Elsa Beskow (Floris Books, £5.99)
A retro classic by the late Swedish children’s illustrator, this is the charming tale of a young boy who gets to meet King Winter at his snow palace and ski, skate and toboggan with the boys and girls of the court.
Learning to Ski with Mr Magee, Chris Van Dusen (Chronicle Books, £9.99)
One in a series of adventures, this comic tale sees the hero set out to learn to ski only to have a run-in with a moose.
The Big Bad Blizzard, Gail Herman (Scholastic Reader, £2.46)
This Scooby Doo adventure sees the The Mystery Inc gang head off skiing but lose Scooby and Shaggy when they sneak off to look for food, getting caught in a blizzard and being chased by monsters.
It’s a Day for Ski and Play, Terri Woods (Young at Play, £8.27)
An illustrated book with musical rhymes and tactile illustrations, this follows a family to their favourite ski area to enjoy a ‘Bluebird Powder Day’.
The Bluffer’s Guide to Skiing (Bluffer’s, David Allsop, £6.99)
It’s not a kids’ book, but teens will love this hilarious book that’s particularly good for first-timers with its guide to ski jargon and etiquette.
