Travel advice after Brexit

Passport advice

Ahead of the current planned deadline date for the UK withdrawal from European Union on 31 October 2019, the government have issued the following advice in the event of leaving the EU without a deal:

After 31 October 2019:

  1. You should have at least 6 months left on your passport from your date of arrival. This applies to adult and child passports.
  2. If you renewed a passport before it expired, up to 9 extra months may have been added to your new passport’s expiry date. Any extra months on your passport over 10 years may not count towards the 6 months that should be remaining for travel to most countries in Europe.

Could my holiday be cancelled because of Brexit?

There is nothing to suggest that you will not be able to continue with your holiday after 31 October 2019. Even in a no-deal or hard Brexit scenario, the European Commission has said flights to and from the UK will still be able to operate.

ABTA has advised that flights will still take place to the EU during the two year transition period so you will still be able to travel.

Will I need to apply for a visa?

British passport holders are able to travel without a visa to the EU even if Britain leaves the EU on a no-deal scenario.
