Taking the Escapade Challenge on a Trois Vallées Ski Holiday
Christmas is generally a time of expanding waistlines. To burn off the calories for your festive lunch, push yourself to the limit in the Three Valleys, home to the ‘Escapade’ challenge.
Seven-course meals cooked up by Mark Warner chefs and late nights at the bar take their toll, but there can be few better places to work off Christmas excesses than the Three Valleys – the world’s largest ski area. A week out on the slopes of a Trois Vallées ski resort such as Méribel will help you lose weight, improve your cardiovascular system and tone some of the major muscle groups. But for those keen to push their physical boundaries, the ski area’s ‘Escapade’ takes in 18 lifts across its furthest reaches in one day, with those who manage awarded a much-coveted badge and happy in the knowledge that they’ve burned off about 3,000 calories!
Most people are keen to get fit in the New Year but it can be very hard to keep your focus without having a specific goal. The prospect of coming to ski in a Trois Vallées resort can provide you with the motivation as well as being a great break to help re-energise for the coming year. Off the slopes there is plenty to enjoy in Méribel town centre, a short bus ride from our Chalet hotel Tarentaise, including a fully equipped gym and an indoor swimming pool. In the hotel itself, there’s a sauna and a Viva salon offering treatments including sports massages that will help relieve those aching muscles and ensure you ski to the best of your ability the next day.
If you’re ready for the challenge, make sure to incorporate some skiing-related fitness into your usual routine. Running and cycling are extremely helpful but it is also necessary to focus on strengthening the front and the back of your thighs, best achieved through a range of squats.
