Festive activities in St Anton
What a brilliant few weeks we’ve had here at the Chalet hotel Rosanna over Christmas and New Year! Fantastic guests enjoying wonderful ski holidays and great snow
Before Christmas, guests and staff took part in an Austrian Christmas tradition called Krampus, in which locals dress up in 100-year-old devil costumes and parade the streets. They hand out sweets to the children and whip the adults with furry sticks in order to ‘beat the bad’ out of them. This is a very strange custom to us but an ancient and sacred tradition to the Austrians – and definitely a sight to behold!
Following the festival, Christmas was upon us. Our guests took a stroll through the Christmas market on the high street, with Glühwein available by the bucketful and German and English classic Christmas songs ringing out. The Rosanna even had a visit from Mrs Santa Clause, who popped in just in time to help the winter-hosting team put on a Bucks Fizz breakfast that got everyone warmed up ready for Christmas Day on the slopes. The ski school of Arlberg even put on a show for us on the piste, with skiing techniques through the ages, daredevil stunts and piste bashers with fireworks shooting across the sky… Perfect!
New Year didn’t disappoint either. Mark Warner guests were treated to a seven-course gala dinner, with canapés and bubbly to start. Then they joined hundreds of locals, visitors and seasonaires who came together for a street party that took over the centre of the resort. The DJ was on a balcony overlooking the high street, fireworks were lit and music blasted out. New Year was welcomed in a way like no other…
