Just a 10 minute drive to the west is the walled port of Lagos, home to an impressive marina, a 17th century fort and a bustling waterfront. Bars, art galleries and restaurants line the cobbled streets and there are fabulous beaches too. The spa town of Caldas de Monchique and age old Silves with its Moorish castle also make fabulous day trips. Hiring a car for the day to explore this lovely part of Portugal is very worthwhile.
