Set up high in the picturesque Dauphine region
of the southern French alps, Les
Deux Alpes is lively, colourful and a great place to get hooked
on skiing. Not only, one of the oldest
French ski resorts, Les Deux
Alpes is also one of the most affordable for both skiing and
apres-ski, for which it has an enviable reputation.
With a vast area of over 200kms of pistes, an
impressive snow record and an above average amount of sunshine,
this area caters for all levels of skier and snowboarder.
Beginners will find plenty of variety, with spacious nursery slopes
at village level and a fine array of easy runs on the
glacier. Intermediates enjoy the versatility of the resort
with both sunny skiing and long runs in the trees down to
picturesque villages such as Bons. There are considerable
attractions for experts too with both the quantity and quality of
off-piste served by the extensive lift network. Snowboarders
and freestylers have their own snowpark with La Toura restaurant
and its sunny terrace.
Les Deux Alpes is a lively village with a large
variety of bars and restaurants to suit all pockets and tastes such
as the Tribeca Bar and Restaurant or the Windsor Pub.
In addition to skiing and snowboarding, there
are a number of other outdoor activities to try your hand at such
as parapenting, ice climbing, walking and snow-shoeing.
The Les Deux Alpes ice caves are a magical
grotto of glistening sculptures. The ice caves were dug out many
years ago by two local guides and they have now become a
permanent feature; each winter expert ice sculptors arrive to
create a new exhibition based on a different theme every
year. Located at 3400m the caves are accessible via a ski
lift and a funicular and well worth a visit.
