Want to start windsurfing?
If the sound of our challenge excites you and you want to become
a windsurfer then all you need to do is find your nearest centre
where you can hire equipment and get some lessons. Failing that,
book yourself into a sunny windsurfing resort at an exotic
location!
My name is Julian King and I'm an ex semi-pro windsurfer. I
started because my parents were into the sport and I grew up as a
toddler on the side of a lake paddling around on board. My father
then bought me a child's start up rig and gave me lessons; as soon
as I felt that motion being carried by the wind effortlessly I was
hooked! It's a feeling only a windsurfer knows but for me it still
excites me now no matter where I am.
I remember being about 12 years old and I used to wash my mum
and dad's cars to get extra pocket money so I could go down to the
local gravel pit and hire a board and sail for an hour. There are
plenty of old gravel pits around the country that have been turned
into water parks with windsurfing and sailing so if you Google the
RYA they should be able to help.
I highly recommend windsurfing to everybody of all ages. It's
exciting, energising and you will experience things you never
thought you would. I was lucky enough to windsurf with Dolphins
last summer of the north coast of Cornwall. When me and my team
undertake Channel Charge
2010, who knows what we'll see in the open waters of the
English Channel!
