If you're tempted by the allure of our two new resorts in Turkey, you might like to uncover the more traditional treasures that the country also has to offer. As well as the beautiful cities of Istanbul and Bodrum, both Sea Garden Beach Resort and Select Maris Beach Resort are close to some stunning ancient sites that are worth making the trip for.

Overlooking the waters of the Golden Horn and the Bosphorus, Istanbul offers breathtaking views a chance to get to know the famously hospitable locals. Named one of the three Cultural Capitals of Europe this year, well-known sights and treasures that would otherwise be closed to the public, such as the beautiful sixth-century church of St Irene in the grounds of Topkapi Palace, are on show throughout the city and the surrounding area. From art festivals to opera, there will be something for everyone. A visit to Istanbul can be arranged locally by your resort.

If you're staying at the Sea Garden Beach Resort then be sure visit Ephesus, one of the largest and best preserved ancient cities in the world. Located near the Aegean Sea, Ephesus was one of the great cities of the Greeks and home to the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Why not venture into the Cave of the Seven Sleepers or stroll around the famous Basilica of St. John?

The ancient city of Knidos is only about an hour's drive away between Marmaris and Datca, and is a must for anybody staying at the Select Maris Beach Resort. At the apex of the peninsula is the city of Knidos, described by Strabo as "A city that was built for the most beautiful of goddesses, Aphrodite, on the most beautiful of peninsulas." Today, you can still see the remains of a circular temple, dedicated to the goddess of love, lying above the two harbours. The historical city was little less than a mile long, but is now full to the brim of magical must see sites.

Whichever resort you're staying at in Turkey, there's plenty to see and do in the area. If you can bare to take yourself off the beautiful Mediterranean waters and leave your boat, kite or surfboard behind, then a trip out of your resort to one of the local sights is well worth it!
