Group of 20 somethings hit Lakitira Beach Resort in Greece.
Mark Warner Holidays, aren't they holidays for families
only?
Well that's what I thought when a friend at Mark Warner invited me
and a group of others out to
Lakitira Beach Resort in
June.
After reassurance on her part and a bit of investigating on the
web, I was surprised to see that actually there was plenty on offer
for a group of 20 somethings. I'm not one of those people that find
it very easy to sit still on holiday and get stuck into a good
book, so while the girls worked on their tans by the pool a few of
the boys threw themselves into the
watersports. Having
been on holidays before where renting a boat for an hour is nearly
the same cost as the actual holiday what appealed to me was the
fact
sailing and
windsurfing equipment was free, plus beginner lessons and
refresher courses were no extra cost. I particularly took to the
windsurfing and decided to do an
RYA course, which only cost me £50 for 10 hours of
tuition.
Although I feared we would be surrounded by kids all holiday - that
wasn't the case at all as it was outside school holidays and
the little ones were mainly in
childcare or around
the family pool. The adult only pool was our base (mainly for the
girls) throughout the holiday and in the evening we had dinner a
little later than the families so the atmosphere was very laid back
and relaxed. The new pool bar is a great place for a post dinner
cocktail with chilled music and friendly local staff. A couple of
nights we were feeling brave and ventured out into Kardamena, be
warned this is not for the fainted hearted, but with some great
bars and themed nights on offer we could not resist. Needless to
say our sporting activities were at a minimum the following
day.
So to cut a long story short, it's not just for families and was
perfect for ten 26 year olds who are stuck behind a desk most of
the year to relax/ play
tennis/
learn to windsurf/ experience the Greek nightlife/ tan/ and
sample some ouzo. Check out some of our snaps below.
Anthony Bell, 26 - 'semi pro' windsurfer as of
June.
